This Privacy Policy explains how Receipt Lens (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our products: the Receipt Lens AI Chrome browser extension and the Receipt Lens Android application, together with their shared backend services (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and basic profile information (such as your name). We use Google OAuth and request only the basic email and profile scopes.

Receipt data

When you scan a receipt, the image you choose (a photo, a gallery image, or an uploaded file) is sent to our servers, where AI extracts details such as the merchant name, date, and total amount. This extracted information may include financial details contained in your receipts, together with the currency conversion you request.

Camera & photos (Android app)

The Android app requests camera access (to photograph a receipt) and photo/media access (to choose a saved receipt image). These are used only when you actively scan a receipt. The app does not browse, upload, or scan your photo library in the background.

Data stored on your device

Your preferences (for example, light/dark theme and selected currency), your sign-in session, your scanned receipt history, and — in the Android app — your Zakat tracker settings are stored locally on your device (in browser storage for the extension, and in on-device app storage for the Android app). This data stays on your device unless you export it.

We do not collect your browsing history, and the extension does not read the content of the web pages you visit.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To authenticate you and keep you signed in.
• To apply free-plan scan limits and to unlock Pro features for subscribers.
• To process your receipt images and return the extracted, converted data you request.
• To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it.

3. Third-Party Services

We rely on a small number of trusted providers, each of which processes data under its own privacy policy:

• Google Sign-In — used to authenticate you (both products).
• OpenAI — receipt images are sent to OpenAI’s API (GPT-4o) solely to extract the data you request.
• Google Cloud — hosts the backend that processes your requests and stores your plan/usage status.
• Polar — processes Pro subscription payments for the Chrome extension.
• Google Play Billing & RevenueCat — process and manage Pro subscriptions for the Android app. To manage your entitlement, RevenueCat receives an app user identifier (your email) and your purchase status.
• Public rate APIs — currency exchange rates, and live gold/silver prices for the Zakat nisab, are fetched from public APIs. These requests contain only currency/metal codes and no personal data.

In all cases, we do not receive or store your full payment-card details; payments are handled by the payment provider.

Receipt Lens’ use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google user data only to provide and improve the Service’s core features, and we do not transfer or sell this data except as needed to provide the Service, to comply with applicable law, or in connection with a merger or acquisition.

4. Data Storage & Retention

• On-device data (preferences, session, scan history, Zakat settings) remains on your device until you sign out, clear it in-app, or uninstall.
• Account information (your email and your usage/subscription status) is retained on our servers while your account is active.
• Receipt images sent for processing are used only to extract the requested data and are not stored on our servers after the result is returned.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with third parties except the service providers listed above (acting on our behalf) or when required by law.

6. Your Choices & Rights

• Access or deletion: You can request access to, or deletion of, your account data by emailing us (see below). The Android app also provides an in-app option to delete your account and associated server data.
• On-device data: Sign out to clear your session, and clear your scanned history from within the extension or app at any time.
• Revoke Google access: You can remove the Service’s access to your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
• Manage subscriptions: Manage or cancel the Android subscription in Google Play; manage the extension subscription through Polar.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including encrypted transmission (HTTPS). However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
